While the LION model began in Port Townsend, WA, it has spread to other areas. Some have chosen to use the LION name, while others are creating their own. There are no criteria for using the LION name, it is a fully “Open-source” grassroots movement!
The original LION. They are affiliated with Local2020, a group that exists “to promote economic self-reliance, environmental stewardship, and community well-being” on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
LION in Madison was started by Rebecca Ryan, a Madison based entrepreneur, investor, and writer. She facilitates the Madison/Dane County LION group, and launched LionInvesting.com to help educate others about LION and Slow Money concepts.
WIN Bellingham (Inspired by LION)
This group is Bellingham chose not to take the LION name, but are mimicking the model. They’ve quickly grown and are engaged in other local investing projects.
